The agency to spend $625 Million on a multi-media public health education campaign to prevent tobacco use spanning five years.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that a five-year advertising contract for up to $625 million dollars has been awarded to True North Communications, the National Association of Tobacco Outlets (NATO) reported.
The contract requires a multi-media public health education campaign to prevent tobacco use.
NATO reported that the campaign will include advertising targeting American Indian and Alaska Native youth. The campaign is expected to include paid media, social media, community outreach and partnerships with organizations. The goal of the advertising campaign is to reach audiences totaling up to 10 million people.
Recently, NATO followed up with the FDA about whether there would be messaging to educate adults not to be a social source of tobacco products for underage youth. The FDA will consider the request, but no specific social sources messaging to adults is planned at this time.
