The program now in its 35th year has raised millions to support families with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases.
Tens of thousands of retailers nationwide—including convenience stores— have rallied together to raise funds to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) save and improve the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy by participating in the 35th annual MDA Shamrocks program —the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day fundraising program of its kind.
The campaign is active now through the end of March.
“It’s remarkable to think that paper Shamrocks bought and signed by customers across the country can make such a tremendous difference in finding treatments and cures for MDA families affected by a neuromuscular disease,” said MDA Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Karen Lewis Alexander. “We can’t thank our retail partners and their employees enough for participating in this year’s Shamrocks campaign and making vital donations possible to help provide the families we serve with access to top clinical care, life-changing summer camps, essential support programs, groundbreaking research and much more.”
Thousands of local grocery, home improvement, convenience stores and restaurants, including Albertsons Companies, Bojangles’ restaurants, CITGO Petroleum Corp. and its Marketers, Divisions of the Kroger Co., and Lowe’s Home Improvement are participating in this year’s MDA Shamrocks program. The iconic paper Shamrocks allow customers and employees to help accelerate progress for individuals whose abilities to move are compromised—including everyday abilities like walking, running, hugging, talking and even breathing—by making a donation at check-out for just a $1, $5 or a larger contribution. Each Shamrock is then signed by the customer and prominently displayed in each store, symbolizing strength, independence and life for MDA families in each community.
Over the past 35 years, the MDA Shamrocks program has raised more than $300 million to support MDA research and services. Learn more about the MDA Shamrocks program and find select participating retailers at mda.org/shamrocks.
