As Supervalu divests 107 locations, Stinker Stores sees an opportunity to grow its store count.
Albertsons cards still will be accepted at the soon-to-be Stinker Stores, as well as at other Stinker stations.
Supervalu is selling 107 fuel centers in its Albertsons, Cub Foods, Hornbacher’s and Jewel-Osco stores, following reports in April that the chain suffered a net loss of $1.5 billion in its latest fiscal year and a drop in net sales to $37.5 billion from $40.6 billion from the previous year.
Stinker’s new acquisition boosts its store count to 65, including two Flying J centers purchased earlier this year. Between the two expansions Stinker has grown by about a third in 2011.
All or nearly all of the 77 employees who work for the Albertsons centers will be extended offers to work for Stinker, said Stinker Co-owner Charley Jones.
