Petroleum giant Tesoro said it has closed 42 Mirastar sites located at Wal-Mart stores nationwide, though it will continue to operate another 32 Mirastar stores that are also located at Wal-Mart.
Company spokeswoman Sarah Simpson said it was a “business decision” that prompted the closings, declining to delve into specifics.
Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, Tesoro operates seven petroleum refineries in the U.S., as well as more than 900 branded retail sites within its system. About 450 of those sites are company-operated and existing under brands including Tesoro, Shell, Mirastar and USA Gasoline.
In May of last year, the company acquired more than 270 Shell-branded retails sites and about 140 USA Gasoline retails sites, most of which were in California.
