Opens unique sales opportunities.
The Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers (AFPD) applauded the House passing Senate Bill 1088 on Dec. 14.
SB 1088, introduced by Sen. Peter MacGregor (R) allows retailers to ship wine directly to customers via common carrier like UPS and FedEx, provides for exciting new delivery abilities for beer, wine and spirits, and aims to bring $60 million worth of sales back to Michigan from illegal out of state retailers.
“This legislation provides many exciting opportunities for retailers all across the state,” said Auday Arabo, AFPD president and CEO. “The ability to ship wine via common carrier will allow retailers to reach customers all across the state. Being able to deliver beer, wine and sprits directly to customers and other designated locations will allow for new unique sales opportunities.”
“When it comes to the delivery and shipment of beer, wine and spirits the law has been complicated and restrictive for too long,” said Dan Papineau, AFPD director of government relations. “This bill clarifies the law and provides for so many new and potentially highly profitable opportunities for Michigan Retailers. Additionally, the bill will stop out of state retailers from illegally competing with our retailers here in Michigan.”
