On National Collector Car Appreciation Day, retro car owners in Beverly Hills, Calif. had the chance to fuel up for retro prices.
One of the nation’s most iconic gas stations, located in Beverly Hills, Calif., was recently transformed into a full-service station from the past by Hagerty magazine. The transformation was performed in celebration of the seventh annual National Collector Car Appreciation Day, and the event invited collector car owners to fuel up at the retro station.
Those who participated in the event received gas at vintage prices based on the year of their vehicle. For example, a 1960 vehicle filled their tank for 31 cents per gallon.
“I am speechless. I am seeing this today for the first time but for me it is also a glimpse back in time,” said Jason Perls Miller, 28, from Culver City, Calif. who brought his 1970 Ford Mustang Convertible. “It is wonderful to see so many cars come out and celebrate this day.”
Owners were also treated to a full service experience from a bygone era including attendants clad in 1950s gas station service uniforms washing windows and checking fluids while hits from the 1950s and 1960s played on a jukebox.
“This day is about celebrating America’s love affair with the automobile and more importantly encouraging people to get their cars out of the garage for a weekend of summer cruising,” said McKeel Hagerty, executive publisher of Hagerty Magazine. “This event transforms the owners back to the time their car was new and full service gas stations were the norm.”
