Larger footprint and upgrades planned after tractor-trailer crashes through c-store.
The Kent Cos. plans to rebuild its Midland County Kent Kwik convenience store after a tractor-trailer crashed into it last Saturday morning, the Midland Reporter-Telegram reported.
Owner Bill Kent told the Midland Reporter-Telegram that the new c-store is expected to be larger and include new upgrades. “This could have been an awful disaster,” Kent said. “We could be dealing with a lot worse than the loss of a building and some merchandise.”
The convenience store, at 4101 E. State Highway 158, had a dining area where customers usually sit to eat. The tractor-trailer slammed through the part of the store where foodservice customers usually sit. The collision happened about 7:40 a.m., and Kent said customers typically would be sitting in the dining area but likely weren’t on Saturday due to the July 4th holiday weekend.
The driver, who may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, was cited for running the stop sign and sustained minor injuries.
All of the employees have been transferred to another local Kent Kwik locations while the store is repaired.
