Pilot Flying J aims to help truckers improve health through a triathlon program.
Pilot Flying J has committed to a new health goal by teaming with Truckers to Triathletes (T2T) to help professional drivers achieve healthier lifestyles.
Through Pilot Flying J’s sponsorship of the Revolution3 (Rev3) Triathlon series, the company was introduced to Truckers to Triathletes, a group of professional drivers who make it a goal to complete triathlons.
Professional drivers often experience long periods of inactivity when behind the wheel, with limited healthy food options and gym facilities to meet their needs. New federal health guidelines have been put in place for professional drivers, which will keep drivers who have poor health off the road.
“When we heard about Truckers to Triathletes, we wanted to get our professional driver customers involved,” said Dave Parmly, manager of employee services for Pilot Flying J. “We were thrilled to find that Truckers to Triathletes were people who overcame obstacles that all drivers face, meeting the challenges of both their profession and the sport of triathlons.”
Pilot Flying J plans to use Rev3 Triatholon on July 8, 2012 in Portland, Ore. to kick off a training plan designed to meet professional drivers’ fitness needs. The training will end when the T2T team participates in the Rev3 race in Anderson, S.C. in October.
“Pilot Flying J will use this as an opportunity to learn more about how to help drivers focus on their health,” Parmly said.
Pilot Flying J, headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., operates more than 600 retail locations across North America.
