New app showcases “some of the amazing means we use to produce energy, deliver it to local communities and help people use it more efficiently,” says Shell spokesperson.
Shell has launched a free iPad application called INSIDE ENERGY to highlight the vital role innovation and technology play in delivering energy to power people’s lives.
A campaign to promote the app begins this week. It will include ads in the apps of the BBC, the Economist and the Daily over a period of several weeks.
“Tablet computers provide a unique and engaging way to show how human ingenuity helps produce more energy and cleaner energy for our planet’s growing population,” said Gerald Schotman, executive vice president of innovation/R&D. “INSIDE ENERGY stories let readers explore some of the amazing means we use to produce energy, deliver it to local communities and help people use it more efficiently.”
INSIDE ENERGY looks at a range of energy-related topics relevant to people’s lives: from the challenges of producing oil and gas from the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, to the design of a clean-burning cook stove that is helping clear the air in some of the world’s poorest homes. It also introduces people whose ideas have sparked innovation.
The app currently includes more than 20 stories. They are accessible to all readers and come alive through a rich mixture of words, interactive graphics, videos, audio and photo galleries. New stories are added regularly and users are automatically notified.
