New Kum & Go stores are set to feature a more fresh food choices and a green design.
Kum & Go is planning 8-10 new convenience stores in Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Marion, Iowa, over the next several years, KCRG TV reported. All locations are scheduled to feature environmentally-friendly designs.
Construction is underway on the first of the stores at Kirkwood Boulevard and Miller Avenue SW. That store is set to open in mid to late September. The Cedar Rapids City Council has also approved the sale of land to Kum & Go at 16th Avenue and Williams Boulevard SW, where Kum & Go plans to construct a store that would open in 2012.
Catherine Huggins, spokeswoman for Kum & Go, told KCRG TV that each store will employ between 10 and 15 associates. “We’re excited these sites will feature Kum & Go’s new store design,” Huggins said. ”This new store design was made
possible through many ideas and suggestions offered by our associates. The new store concept has a greater product offering and fresh food choices such as ‘made-to-order’ pizzas and bakery items. ”
The stores will focus on sustainable features, beginning at the construction level, with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building requirements in mind.
“Materials used for the construction will be sustainable, coming from local companies whenever possible. This will include recycled steel and no volatile organic compounds in paint and adhesives,” Huggins said.
Kum & Go operates more than 430 stores in 11 states.
