State calls on small stores to help fight obesity.
The state of Vermont is launching a “Fit and Healthy” campaign aimed at small stores, encouraging them to offer more healthful products in the quest to fight obesity, WPTZ News reported.
More than half of all Vermont adults are overweight or obese, while the number of overweight children is increasing.
Stores that volunteer for the program receive free signs and materials and assistance in promoting healthier options.
“What we want to do is help them highlight healthy options, (including) some that might already be in their stores,” health department official Yvonne Zietlow said.
