Rutter’s Sends Valentine’s Boxes To Troops

For the fifth year in a row, Rutter’s Farm Stores and the nonprofit Support Our American Recruits will send Valentine’s Day goodie boxes to area troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan or Kuwait.

The organizations plan to send about 50 boxes – each containing enough items for a military unit of 15 to 20 people.

Area residents who have loved ones serving in one of the three countries can submit their names to the executive director of SOAR, and requests will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The boxes will be filled with items including salted snacks, candy, chewing gum and Valentine’s Day cards. A number of Rutter’s vendors donated items for the boxes.

SOAR ( was founded in York County. Its mission is to support troops serving at home and overseas, honor veterans, and provide a support group for family members of the troops.

York County, Pa.-based Rutter’s operates 55 convenience stores in Pennsylvania.
