tim hortons introduces the timcard

Chain moves forward with initiative to increase electronic payments.

Tim Hortons Inc. will be launching the closed-loop, reloadable “TimCard” this fall as part of a movement by the chain to increasingly accept electronic payments.

During a recent analyst call, company officials for Oakville, Ontario-based Tim Hortons said they expect it will take two years before the cards reach their “peak performance.”

“The TimCard program is another way we will be promoting our brand everyday,” said Paul House, Tim Hortons’ president, CEO and chairman.

The company says that of its 3,000 Canadian locations, 1,000 now accept MasterCard cards, including PayPass, and all of its locations will be able to accept electronic payments by year’s end.
