Revamped location to feature a 115 seat restaurant and eight fueling positions.
Irving Oil’s plans for a new Goobies Big Stop will be good news to customers looking for great meals and clean washrooms along the TransCanada Highway.
The existing Big Stop location will be taken down to make way for the new location featuring a larger convenience store, additional fueling stations, enhanced food offering and improved professional driver amenities.
“We’re going to continue to invest in Newfoundland and Labrador and make the investments necessary to continue as the retail destination of choice for the traveling public,” said Darren Gillis, general manager, sales & marketing operations. “We appreciate our valued customers, and we hope they enjoy the attention to detail our team puts into each location.”
The original Goobies Big Stop opened in 1970 and has served customers for over 47 years. Some early site work has begun on the new location, with the rebuild beginning late April, wrapping up late fall. Approximately 60 tradespeople will be on site any given day preparing to welcome customers to the new site with eight fueling positions, three diesel fueling lanes and a 115 seat restaurant.
The Goobies investment is part of a multi-year plan to invest over $50 million in Newfoundland and Labrador. Investments include renovations to the Paradise and Topsail Rd Irving locations in St. John’s, and a major renovation of the Deer Lake Big Stop completed in 2015. Irving Oil has also recently completed an upgrade to its asphalt terminal in Botwood and is nearing completion of a dock expansion project in St John’s Harbour. The marine terminal and dock upgrades will improve capacity at the existing facility and reduce wait times for supply vessels working in the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore oil industry.
With over 900 fueling locations, operations from 10 distribution terminals, and a delivery fleet of tractor‐trailers, Irving Oil serves wholesale, commercial, and retail customers in Atlantic Canada, Quebec, New England and Ireland.
