PFSbrands’ owner has sold 100% of the company to its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
Shawn Burcham, the founder and CEO of PFSbrands, has long worked at instilling “ownership thinking” as one of the key driving forces behind his company’s celebrated culture.
PFSbrands is the home of the prepared food brands for c-stores— Champs Chicken, Cooper’s Express and several private-label brands.
Now, Burcham has taken a radical step to enable the members of PFSbrands team to become even more motivated, more committed and more accountable to each other.
As reported by CSD in January, the sole shareholders of PFSbrands—Shawn and Julie Burcham—have concluded the sale of 100% of their company to its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Shawn Burcham and PFSbrands senior leadership team will remain in place to continue driving the explosive growth the company has experienced over its 18-year history.
Burcham’s strategy is definitely unconventional for a business owner in his position, which caught the attention of Forbes contributor, Darren Dahl. Dahl recently published a story in Forbes, which reveals the extensive steps Burcham and his senior leadership team took to promote long-term growth and profitability not only for PFSbrands, but also for their c-store partners.
