A gas-grocery combo where customers can pick up online orders looks to compete in the convenience market.
Walmart is again trying its hand at the convenience market with a new concept called Walmart Pickup and Fuel. The chain is testing a location in Huntsville, Ala. and Thornton, Colo.
Business Insider reported that the new Walmart concept offers same-day pickup for groceries ordered online. Customers can place an order before 1 p.m. and pick it up after 5 p.m. the same day. The groceries are bagged at a nearby Walmart Supercenter and loaded into customers’ cars at the Walmart Pickup and Fuel for no additional charge.
For customers who just need the basics and don’t plan to order ahead, the new concept also offers grab-and-go food and beverage items, a coffee bar and basic grocery items like milk, eggs and bread.
Walmart previously attempted a convenience concept with Walmart Express in 2011, but ended up closing the locations in early 2016.
