In celebration of the final days of summer, 7-Eleven is hosting this year’s second Bring Your Own Cup Day event.
7-Eleven is celebrating the final days of summer with two more Bring Your Own Cup days! On Fri., Aug. 19 and Sat., Aug. 20, Slurpee-lovers are invited to bring in a container of their choice and fill it with their favorite Slurpee drink. The promotion will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days.
The cost to fill their chosen “cup” at participating stores is $1.50, which is the average cost of a medium Slurpee drink and a great deal for customers with extra-extra-large cups. Note: Featured Sour Patch Redberry flavor is a limited-time offering, and fans can use this opportunity to enjoy the sweet and sour Slurpee drink before it’s gone.
Each person can only bring in one container, which must be leak-proof, safe and sanitary, and must fit upright through an in-store display with a 10-inch-diameter hole. That means no trashcans or trash bags, kiddy pools or kitchen sinks. For those who forget, 7-Eleven has 32-ounce Slurpee fishbowls available for purchase for just $3.99, while supplies last.
“This is Slurpee’s 50th birthday year, so everything is bigger, and that includes BYOCup Day,” said Laura Gordon, 7-Eleven vice president of marketing and brand innovation. “This year’s event is double the days and happening twice as many times. Last time, lots of people posted photos on social media, unofficially competing for ‘most unusual’ honors.”
Part of the entertainment is capturing the Slurpee experience with photos and sharing it on social media. To encourage social media participation, 7-Eleven is using the hashtag #BYOCupDay so Slurpee fans can share their crazy containers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. An animated Slurpee lens for Snapchat users will add to the messaging fun Aug. 19, and a Snapchat geo-filter will be available at stores both days.
“We started Slurpee season in the spring with BYOCup days, and we are closing out the summer with a second round,” Gordon said. “People loved it then, and we know they’ll be back, so we invite them to get creative and bring on the fun!”
7-Eleven’s BYOCup Day is a worldwide phenomenon. Besides the U.S., 7-Eleven stores in Australia, Canada, the Philippines and Malaysia have held BYOCup Days.
Slurpee drinks purchased during BYOCup Day will count toward the retailer’s 7Rewards “Buy Six, Get the Seventh Free” drink offer available on the 7-Eleven mobile app in the U.S. If customers already have six digital punches on their rewards card, they cannot redeem their free seventh drink at BYOCup Day.
In addition to Slurpee drinks, the 7Rewards program includes 7-Eleven coffee and its other hot beverages, plus Big Gulp and Chillers drinks. The 7 Eleven’s mobile app is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
