It will make life easier for both you and your job applicants if you tell them what you are looking for in their answers to your questions. I like to use the SOAR formula:
Situation: “Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult co-worker and things did not work out the way you wanted them to.” (Don’t look just for the things that went well; look for things that did not work and find out why.)
Obstacles: What made it difficult for you to work with this person?
Action: What did you do?
Result: What was the outcome?
