New FDA mandate may cost craft brewers upwards of $100,000.
A new mandate from the FDA may have some devastating effects on the craft beer industry.
According to a report from KRQE News 13, by next December the FDA will require restaurant chains to provide full nutritional information on all products served, including beverages. According to New York City brewers, this mandate will restrict the craft beer selection that restaurants can choose to offer.
It is not the calculating of nutritional information that poses difficulties, but rather the new labeling requirements that may accompany the new law. Adding new nutritional labels to the front and neck labels that are already present on most craft beers in the U.S. will create label and equipment costs of $100,000 or more.
