Some 36 grills were needed to grill Johnsonville’s giant sausage.
In celebration of Delaware North Sportservice’s 100th anniversary, Johnsonville grilled the unofficial longest brat in the U.S. The celebration took place on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., where the company is in charge of general concessions, restaurants and catering operations.
Heath Barbato, executive chef at Delaware North Sportservice, collaborated with Johnsonville’s team of food scientists to create the giant sausage. Weighing in at 225 pounds and an astonishing length of 367 feet; the Johnsonville Original Brat recipe ran the entire length of the football field, including both end zones and then some. The brat produced approximately 750 servings for Delaware North’s anniversary celebration.
“Delaware North has been a great partner for us,” said Todd Pogorzelski, executive vice president, Johnsonville Sausage. “It was only natural for us to step in and help them ring in their 100th anniversary with this epic creation.”
The Johnsonville Original Brat recipe was grilled on a custom made grill from Badger Sheet Metal Works based in Green Bay, Wis. and consisted of 36 sections, each 10 feet long. Chef Heath served as lead grillmaster along with Johnsonville’s meat scientist, Jonathan Pleitner.
