Seattle is following in the footsteps of other major cities and banning the use of cigarettes in public parks.
Following in the footsteps of over 1,000 cities in the U.S., Seattle has made it illegal to smoke in public parks. In May, Seattle’s Parks and Recreation officials voted to ban smoking in each of Seattle’s 465 parks, and on Monday, July 6, the ban was put in place.
According to a report by Huffington Post, police officers and park rangers are enforcing the ban. Officers will first give a verbal warning for a first offense, but repeat offenders will be subject to arrest.
The ban in Seattle does not include the use of electronic cigarettes.
