In response to customer demand, Yum Brands is switching to ingredients customers can recognize.
Taco Bell and Pizza Hut—both owned by Yum Brands Inc.—are removing artificial colors and flavors from their foods as customers demand more natural food and transparency when it comes to ingredients.
For example, instead of “black pepper flavor,” Taco Bell plans to use actual black pepper in its seasoned beef, the Guardian reported. Among other changes, Taco Bell also plans to remove the artificial dyes Yellow No. 6 from its nacho cheese and Blue No. 1 from its avocado ranch dressing.
New recipes are currently being tested and are expected to appear nationally by the end of the 2015.
Yum Brands is not alone. Panera, McDonald’s and Subway are among other restaurant chains that have said they plan to make the move to more recognizable ingredients.
