“We are proud to lend our support to this worthy cause,” says Rutter’s chief consumer officer.
For the 10th year, volunteers from Rutter’s and Support Our American Recruits (SOAR) packed Valentine’s Day goodie boxes to be shipped to American troops stationed abroad.
The boxes are filled with snacks, chewing gum, coffee and magazines donated by local suppliers like Hershey’s, UTZ Snacks, Martin’s Chips, Harrisburg News, S&D Coffee, Con-Agra Foods and Chase-Goldenberg, as well as handmade Valentine cards from area school children and senior citizens. Each box is sent to a local soldier serving overseas.
“We are proud to lend our support to this worthy cause. Our troops overseas make great sacrifices, and this token of appreciation hopefully provides them with love and a few of their favorite comforts from back home,” said Rutter’s Chief Customer Officer Derek Gaskins.
The mission of SOAR (www.supportouramericanrecruits.com) is to support troops serving at home and overseas, honor veterans, and provide a support group for family members of the troops.
Rutter’s has been active in the community since its beginning in 1921. Under the third generation of family leadership, Rutter’s operates 60 convenience stores throughout central Pennsylvania with Scott Hartman as president and CEO, Todd Rutter as president of Rutter’s Dairy and Tim Rutter as president of M&G Realty.
