As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Gulf Oil LP, the fastest growing branded marketer of energy products in the U.S., is bringing its national support for breast cancer research and awareness to new levels this year.
In addition to being a national partner, Gulf is sponsoring numerous regional fundraising walks for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign, including this weekend’s Making Strides of Jones Beach walk on Long Island, N.Y.
Gulf is a “Corporate Champion” of the Oct. 20 Making Strides event, with long-time Gulf dealer Benit Fuel, a family-owned company that has been distributing petroleum products since 1928. Together, they are taking the lead to raise thousands of dollars and recruit scores of “Team Gulf” walkers from Gulf stations and dealers throughout Long Island.
“We are excited to be joining forces with Gulf, our largest strategic partner, on their effort to help ‘finish the fight’ against breast cancer,” said Louis DeBenedittis, director of marketing for Benit Fuel. “Our entire staff is committed to fundraising and participating in the Jones Beach walk on Oct. 20 as a part of “Team Gulf”—it is an important cause, especially for people on Long Island, where one of every eight woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Benit Fuel has represented and distributed Gulf products in the New York metro area for 40 years.
“Let’s finish the fight against breast cancer this Sunday, Oct. 20 at Jones Beach State Park for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk,” said Anne Thorsen, senior representative, community engagement for the American Cancer Society. “We are especially grateful for our Flagship Sponsors and new Corporate Champion Gulf Oil for leading the way in the fight to end breast cancer. Every step taken and every dollar raised will help us continue to invest in breast cancer research, offer information and support to people facing breast cancer and ensure access to mammograms. Long Island is one community united together with the same passion to defeat breast cancer to save more lives.”
The Gulf Oil Giving Foundation is raising funds for the American Cancer Society through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks throughout its 29 state service area. In addition to being a Flagship Sponsor of the Oct. 6 walk in Boston, Gulf employees, dealers and partners have fielded teams from New Hampshire to Florida and beyond.
“We are extremely proud of our involvement in the vital work of breast cancer research, and to be raising much-needed funds for the Making Strides campaign that makes a difference in the lives of millions of men and women and their loved ones,” said Rick Dery, senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer for Gulf. “Partnering with the American Cancer Society and supporting the great work they do is a cause that we are deeply involved with, not only financially, but also through the tireless efforts of our employees and partners like Benit Fuel who work hard and care deeply about eradicating this disease.”
People interested in joining Team Gulf at the Jones Beach walk can contact Michele DeBenedittis at email@example.com. Participating Gulf stations on Long Island also have collection jars prominently displayed, making it easy for customers to donate to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research and awareness programs.
