With a 25-year track regard in the grocery business, Lisa Sedlar, who stepped down as CEO of New Seasons Markets two months ago, is planning a new venture called Green Zebra Grocery, according to KGW Online.
The first Zebra location is set to open in a space that contained a former Safeway store in the 1950s and, most recently, a Chinese Buffet on North Lombard and Peninsular avenues in Portland.
“Green Zebra is a variety of tomato that grows particularly well here in the Pacific Northwest,” Sedlar told KGW.
Another site is schedule to open at Woodstock and SE 49th. Both stores are scheduled to open by early fall of 2013, and plan to emphasize locally-grown produce and healthy grab-and-go foods. It will cost an estimated $1 million to open each store.
Sedlar’s goal is 20 stores by 2020.
