Weigel’s hosts grand opening celebrations at its newest, Knoxville, Tenn. store.
Weigel’s, a family-owned dairy in East Tennessee, opened its 60th full-service convenience store in West Knoxville, Tenn.-area on June 8 at the corner of Choto Road and Northshore Drive.
Bill Weigel, chairman and CEO, said he decided to build the store after receiving requests from local consumers to open a store in the area. Weigel acted on those requests this month.
Ken McMullen, president of Weigel’s Stores, said the newest store had a “soft launch” for two weeks to get the store up to operational speed. This week from Monday through Sunday, July 1, Weigel’s new Knoxville store is hosting its grand opening celebration.
“We are giving away milkshakes, our corn dogs and we have unique product specials for just the 60th store,” McMullen said. “One example is ‘gas day’ where we discounted gas at 10 cents per gallon all day.”
McMullen said the new store has a “larger store footprint,” LED energy saving lights, a larger walk-in cooler, tiled floors and walls and a neighborhood-feel landscape. He said the new store also bakes in-store the company’s proprietary breakfast biscuits. The store includes all Weigel’s other signature products such as Monkey Ice frozen drinks, Kona coffee and cappuccinos and Skim D’Lite milk.
The new store also features Weigel’s no-surcharge ATMs for easier cash access.
“We’re all about convenience and saving our customers’ money,” Weigel said. “Waiving the upfront ATM fee is our way of putting money back in our hard-working customers’ pockets.”
McMullen said the Knoxville community has embraced the new Weigel’s store positively.
“The new store, thus far, has been well-received and traffic continues to increase daily,” McMullen said. “This store is located in an area of Knoxville where we needed a presence.”
