“We plan on Weigel’s Family Christmas growing larger each year,” says Weigel’s president.
Christmas arrived early this year for 180 area children – thanks to Weigel’s Family Christmas.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, 180 area children were treated to a day of shopping and a festive holiday party. The magic began at 8 a.m. for the children and Weigel’s volunteer chaperones; boarding buses, to be whisked away to K Mart on Broadway. Each child went shopping for gifts of their choosing, and then returned to the Salvation Army recreational center to enjoy lunch and a party in a festive atmosphere provided by the sponsors of Weigel’s Family Christmas.
“This is our 14th annual Weigel’s Family Christmas,” said Ken McMullen, president of Weigel’s. This one event has become so important to Weigel’s that we have created a special Foundation. Giving back to the community in this way touches the lives of each of us, and we want it to continue for generations to come.”
Weigel’s Family Christmas is a year-long effort of the Weigel’s staff, their employees and customers. Since the first Weigel’s Family Christmas in 1998, and with just eight children selected by the Salvation Army, Weigel’s Family Christmas has now grown to 180 children thanks to our employees, vendors, many sponsors and volunteers. “It brings great joy to see the difference they are making in the lives of these children,” said McMullen. “This event helps us realize the true importance of this time of year by creating for these children a day where their dreams can come true.”
Throughout the year, all Weigel’s stores have special events to raise money. “We have been blessed over the years to have the gracious support of so many vendor and supplier friends,” said McMullen, “and we plan on Weigel’s Family Christmas growing larger each year so we can provide many more of our children in the community an opportunity to enjoy a day to remember.”
