7-Eleven hosts job fair to draw Washington D.C.-based applicants.
7-Eleven Inc. is participating in One City One Hire, Washington D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray’s new initiative to get District residents employed, the Washington Post reported.
At a job fair Monday at the Department of Employment Services headquarters, 7-Eleven offered 26 District residents jobs at its two new stores in the Northeast. More than 100 job applicants attended the job fair, held to fill spots at stores set to open on Benning Road NE and Bladensburg Road NE.
The One City One Hire program, launched in September, aims to pair 10,000 unemployed residents with private jobs in the next year, and is modeled after a similar program in Atlanta.
7-Eleven is reportedly planning to open up to a dozen stores in the District through franchising.
“7-Eleven will be working with my team to identify D.C. residents to be included in the pool of applicants to be awarded a franchise,” Gray said. “This is an example of a company that has embraced our One City One Hire initiative.”
