With 132 new stores open already this year, Krispy Krunchy Chicken moves toward its goal.
Krispy Krunchy Chicken opened seven new stores this week, bringing its YTD total openings to 132.
“I ask each market for its (store opening) goals at the beginning of the year,” said Dan Shapiro, executive vice president of Krispy Krunchy Foods LLC. “Last year we opened about 240 locations, and this year we’re on track to open 300 if we can keep up our average, which is about six stores a week, which is unbelievable.”
The total goal set is 462 new locations in 2011, or as many as possible.
Last year, Shapiro began ranking markets according to how many stores each was able to launch in an effort to motivate more openings, and the numbers began to surge. Currently Krispy Krunchy has more than 600 locations in 25 states.
This week, the Louisiana market opened two stores extending its lead over the surging Dallas, which took a week off. Nashville opened its 12th store of the year to pull into third place all alone. Central Alabama opened its 11th location to take the fourth place spot in the ranking. Louisville and Atlanta each opened their 10th stores to pull into a three-way tie with Memphis. And St. Louis opened its sixth store for a three-way tie with south Florida and Columbia.
With four more weeks in the second quarter, Louisiana, Dallas, Nashville, Louisville, Memphis and Atlanta have already met their second quarter goals for store openings, while central Alabama and south Florida are within one store of reaching their second quarter goals.
