C-store chain Thorntons Inc. is encouraging other Louisville-area businesses to join it in helping to fund the Waterfront Clean Team, a group of local high school and college students responsible for keeping the park clean from May to September, the Louisville Business First reported.
Thorntons will donate $35,000 to fund the team for the 2010 season if other businesses agree to pay the same amount to fund the program through 2015, the Waterfront Development Corp. said in a news release.
Clean Team members pick up litter, pull weeds and perform general maintenance in the park’s two play areas, as well as the public garden and other common spaces.
The team wears shirts branded with the name of the company donor and is also used in publicity pieces mentioning the program.
Kindred Healthcare Inc. funded the first Clean Team in 2006 and again in 2008, while Aegon funded the team in 2007 and 2009.
