Residents in some Iowa communities will be able to help disabled individuals every time they fill up their car, the Clinton Herald in Clinton, Iowa, reported.
The 28th annual Cent-A-Gallon Day is being held Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, at gas stations across the state.
For every gallon of fuel sold at participating businesses, one cent will be donated to Camp Courageous of Iowa. The camp is a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities.
A Phillips 66 marketer in Iowa, operated by Ron McGauvran, is also matching every penny collected at the local gas stations during Cent-A-Gallon Day, furthering the contribution to the camp.
The camp serves more than 5,000 disabled children and adults from across Iowa and the surrounding area and is run entirely on donations.
The Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Iowa is sponsoring the event.
