Corpus Christ City Council members are considering an ordinance that would require all gas stations to implement a pay-before-you-pump rule, Channel 6 KRIS-TV news reported.
The city is looking to cut down on gas thefts and drive offs, which Corpus Christi police say they receive thousands of reports of each year. Police Chief Bryan Smith has asked the city council to adopt the ordinance requiring fuel stations to have their customers pay before they pump.
The city council will vote on the first reading Tuesday, though it would require a second vote before it becomes official. The Texas cities of Alice, Aransas Pass and Rockport have all passed similar ordinances within the last year.
