Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is planning to hire 750 employees in the next three months in its West Coast stores as a part of a continued expansion, the Tesco subsidiary announced.
The company will open its 62nd store in Manhattan Beach, Calif., next week, adding to the existing lineup of Fresh & Easy locations in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada.
The company said it witnessed an overwhelming response to its pay and benefits package: For every employee hired, the company received more than 13 applications. On the whole the company now employs more than 2,100 people at its stores, distribution center and company headquarters.
Each store employs about 25, and the company says it seeks to hire and recruit locally. As a result, more than 50% of store employees live within four miles of the store where they work.
“We’re demonstrating our commitment to be a great place to work, and we’re thrilled about our continued expansion in California, Arizona and Nevada, despite tougher economic times,” said Tim Mason, Fresh & Easy’s CEO. “We know our rewards and benefits package is competitive, and our timing is right – we’re creating quality jobs for our employees, right in their neighborhoods, with great opportunity for advancement.”
Entry-level positions at the company start at $10 an hour in California, with similarly competitive salaries in other states. The company also offers a quarterly bonus of up to 10%, and employees can work at least 20 hours a week to give them healthcare benefits, including medical, prescription drug, dental and vision. Fresh & Easy pays at least 75% of the cost of medical, but also offers employees a 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
