New openings in non-traditional locations and brand notoriety move the chain in to the future.

Subway is on a fast expansion track, opening 628 new locations–many of which are c-stores–between the beginning of March and the end of June of this year, adding what the company calculates as roughly the equivalent of 750,000

square feet of retail space and 6,000 employment opportunities to its chain.

The chain has also recently reached a milestone, now operating over 6,400 stores in “non-traditional” locations, such as c-stores, travel centers and college campuses. Recently, the company was ranked as the third largest chain in the world behind 7-Eleven and McDonalds.

In other news, Forbes magazine named the Subway chain as the fast food brand that American loves most, in an article recently posted on their web site. In addition, the Subway brand was rated as the number one provider of healthier options and rated number one in service in the recent Zagat survey of fast food restaurants.
